When someone tells you to write out a resume, you’re probably asking yourself “What good is that going to do me? I wouldn’t have anything to put in it!” This is where you’re wrong. As a homeschooler, you should already have the skills and community experience necessary to write out a decent resume. And of […]
-Read more!Applying for a Job- Part I
Last October, I walked into Carrabba’s 5 minutes before one in the afternoon dressed up in the best clothing I had and a tie to go with it. I waited there patiently at the front desk, ready for the store manager to walk out at any moment to greet me. I was ready for my interview, confident that all would go well because I knew that I was prepared and went through all the steps necessary to get hired. Twenty minutes later, I finally shook hands with the man who would potentially be my boss.
When you’re applying for a job, there are steps that you need to take if you want to get hired. You can’t just walk in one day, hand someone at the front desk your application and expect a call back the next week; not if you’re serious about getting the job. Here’s what you should first be doing:

Finding a college that’s affordable can oftentimes be like trying to find an honest lawyer (no correlation, by the way). Most universities usually only tell you their tuition rates, but that’s really only half of what you will be paying for. Campus fees, textbooks, room and board, and food are among some of the things […]

In September, the New York Times wrote a short article about the SAT report on the scores of the class of 2012, stating that there was a ‘slight’ dip in the critical reading score. Sure this was only 1 point, but if you read on, you’ll see that only 43% of all high school seniors […]

If you’re looking for a few more options to apply for then give this list a try. Given that many of them are location specific or require a degree, the only ones that may apply to you are Mattress Firm or In-N-Out Burger if you live in the South-west. The important thing though is to […]

Here’s a video I’ve managed to scrape up on YouTube. It’s a video featuring college freshmen and sophomores as they give some good insight as to what to expect when you’re in college. The advice given is aimed more towards the public-schooled, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a homeschooler can’t get something out of it […]

A few weeks ago, I tried to get an interview with Princeton University on what their expectation were for admitting students and whether home schooled students were ever considered by the university. My initial request was declined, unfortunately, but they did give me one good resource to use. You can find their tips for home […]

This is a post that I wrote last year as I was planning on launching this site months ago. Anyway, this is something to start off with. I will be posting up the 2013 Edition soon. ‘Mom and Pop’ diners are good to start with when going to college, but you don’t get the benefits […]
-Read more!Advantages of Homeschooling (Or Disadvantages of Public Schooling)
Believe it or not, as a homeschooler, you’re actually more prepared for college than your public-schooled counterparts. Yes, this is a very biased statement and now I’ve got the government and every single member of the teacher’s union against me, so let me explain what I mean in the form of a list. 1. Flexibility […]

Homeschooling creates a new breed of animal: one that organizes its time on a weekly basis without someone there to with a leash around its neck to tell it to tell it where to go and when to do it five days out of the week. I was homeschooled during my junior and senior years […]
